Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights
There is no January LGBT Taskforce Meeting.
What does the LGBT Taskforce do?
As a local extension of the national ACLU LGBT Project, the local ACLU LGBT Taskforce hosts rallies to support rights protections or protest discrimination. We also promote the ACLU's Tell 3 campaign.
The LGBT Taskforce has published The Rights of LGBT People in Kansas and Western Missouri, a handbook for understanding current local laws and regulations. The third edition of the handbook is will be available soon. It will be available here for downloading and review.
If you would like a copy of the handbook, please let us know that and we'll hold one for you.
The LGBT Taskforce also presents educational events to enhance the experience of civil liberties by LGBT populations with particular attention to five issue areas:
- Relationships
- Parenting
- Schools and Youth
- Transgender
- Employment- & housing-related discrimination
Locally, the ACLU's LGBT Taskforce:
- builds coalition with LGBT-related organizations throughout Kansas And Western Missouri
- seeks to bolster enforcement of Human Rights Ordinances in municipalities of our region
- increases awareness of transgender equality
- works to enhance anti-bullying and non-discrimination policies in the public school districts of our region
- supports equality in relationships, parenting, employment and housing
The LGBT Taskforce welcomes all concerned ACLU members, interested community members, including straight allies, and representatives from business, government and all faith communities.
The ACLU LGBT Project fights discrimination and moves public opinion on LGBT rights through the courts, legislatures and public education. Learn more about national ACLU's LGBT Project.
