Legal Internship

  • Designed to expose interns to the legal aspects of public interest work.
  • Projects will mostly involve factual and legal research into constitutional issues such as students' rights, privacy, due process, religious freedom, gay and lesbian rights and free speech.
  • Working under the Legal Director's supervision, interns will review, analyze and investigate complaints, correspond with complainants and do legal research.
  • Ideal for pre-law and law students, political science students and students interested in social justice, human rights and civil liberties.
  • Open to non-students also.

Qualifications

  • A commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission and goals of the ACLU required.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Word, and/or demonstrated ability to learn computer applications.
  • Experience working with non-profit or advocacy group(s) valuable.

Applicants

  • These internships are unpaid, but you will gain valuable information, powerful networks and experience you can use.
  • Hours and days are flexible, and negotiable, but interns are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.
  • Applicant must have a positive attitude, flexibility, desire to learn different aspects of non-profit organizations, and interest in social justice and human rights issues.
