Arizona Racial Profiling Law Threatens Civil Liberties

Kansas City, Mo. – In response to civil liberties threats caused by the recent passage of Arizona’s racial profiling law, the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and Western Missouri (ACLU) issued a travel alert today informing Kansas and Missouri residents of their rights when stopped by law enforcement if traveling in Arizona. The unconstitutional law, known as SB 1070, requires law enforcement agents to demand "papers" from people they stop who they suspect are not authorized to be in the United States. If individuals are unable to prove to officers that they are permitted to be in the U.S., they may be subject to warrantless arrest without any probable cause that they have committed a crime.

Kansas City, MO - The ACLU of Kansas and Western Missouri has filed a lawsuit in the federal district court for the District of Kansas against William C. Blundell, Sheriff of Labette County, Kansas and the Board of Commissioners of Labette County. The case number is 10-CV-2110.



ACLU Calls on President-elect Obama to Restore America

On September 25, 2008, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Department (HHS) will close the book on public comments to a far-reaching and dangerous regulation proposal.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the American Civil Liberties Union submitted formal comments opposing this regulation, which, if enacted, would jeopardize women’s health care by allowing providers to withhold both services and the critical information women need to make fully informed decisions about their health care.



Decorated US War Hero's Citizenship Delayed

The American Civil Liberties Union sued the government in a federal court in Kansas for unlawfully delaying the citizen application of Julian Polous Al Matchy, a highly decorated U.S. Army war hero.
